SERVICES
In addition to my writing, directing and producing ventures, I have often been employed as an analyst or script doctor. I have analyzed plays for the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference, television pilots and screenplays for CBS, Lorimar and the Page Awards, and screenplays for From Script to PreProduction. I have literally read and analyzed and provided feedback for thousands of scripts and I’ve been told I’m very good at spotting challenges and suggesting solutions. In recent years, friends and colleagues have been reaching out for my help. So I have decided to provide a description of the services I offer to writers and producers. Production services are listed at the bottom. Please contact me at epagenyc@gmail.com.
Writers’ Packages:
Consult on Feature Length Screenplay or Full Length Stage Play - $500
After a careful read of the script, I will give you detailed written feedback on your theme, structure, character development, style, tone, dialogue, premise, plot, pacing and story, paying particular attention to where the script succeeds and where it still needs work. After you have digested this, we will then have an in depth, one-hour, phone conversation so that I can answer any questions you may have.
Consult on a Short Screenplay (under 15 pages) or One Act Stage Play (under 30 pages) - $175
After a careful read of the script, I will give you detailed written feedback on your theme, structure, character development, style, tone, dialogue, plot, pacing and story, paying particular attention to where the script succeeds and where it still needs work. After you have digested this, we will then have an in depth, half-hour, phone conversation so that I can answer any questions you might have.
Add-On Consults - $150 each
After your script or play consultation, I will add the following consultations in order as they build on one another - 1) Consult on a Logline and a Short Synopsis; 2) Consult on a Pitch; 3) Consult on a Lookbook. Each one of these consultations involves a minimum of three in depth conversations including feedback on materials, assignments and a final review. Pitches and Lookbooks require consults in person or on facetime or a similar platform as we will need to be able to share screens and visual materials.
Consult on an Application - $650
These days we face a mountain of applications to contests, labs, workshops, grants, funds and programs. It helps to have all your materials ready. You will undoubtedly still have to adjust and revise these materials – some folks want a 500 word “artistic statement,” some want a 750 word “artistic statement” – but I find it helpful to have a stash of these “statements” and synopses and cover letters and loglines prepared and available. It’s also nice to get some feedback and help to propel you through this process. So what I’ve put together is a consult that includes the following: I will read and analyze the script and then read your loglines, synopses, statements and cover letters, giving you feedback and written notes on these elements. We’ll then have a discussion about the notes. This discussion will also invariably involve feedback on the script itself. I’ll then read and give feedback on your final drafts of all these elements. I need to have the script two weeks before the application deadline and your elements ten days before the application deadline.
Consult on a Budget - $250 - $1,000
In consultation with the writer/director, I will create a preliminary schedule and budget suitable for fundraising purposes and applications. Fee determined by the length and challenges of the script.
Producers’ Package:
Producers – particularly Independent Producers – often have too much on their plates. They’d also often benefit from another set of eyes on a script and a discreet discussion of the merits. With that in mind, I’m offering the following:
Script Coverage - $500
This includes both summary materials - a logline, short synopsis, and breakdown of main characters – and a critical assessment – the plusses and minuses of the script, where and how improvements can be made, and production opportunities and challenges. Plus a phone convo to discuss all of the above.
Note: I am generally of the opinion that the original writer should be given the opportunity to revise a script and I would be happy to do a Writer’s Consult as described above. If that is not possible and you would like my help, revisions and new drafts would be billed at WGA rates. If the project isn’t for me, I’d be happy to refer you to several of the wonderful, accomplished writers I know.
